The correlations
Because of the demographic development is a continuous and increasing demand for inpatient nursing beds, assisted living, alternative housing and home care. Demand increases disproportionately.

The number of people needing care will increase, according to forecasts from the Federal Statistical Office in 2020 to about 800,000. Of these 500,000 people can be treated as outpatients, but 300,000 people will need hospital care or rely on alternative forms of housing. The replacement demand for existing homes and the upcoming need for alternative housing for seniors is not included in these figures.

These facts speak for themselves, and the consequences are well known. The European population structure leads to a dramatic increase in the need of care.

This means an irreversible trend toward professional care in nursing homes and home care services. In future there will be no alternative to this.

Since 2003, the number of managed care in residential facilities by approximately 6% (+36,000) and the number of those supplied by outpatient services by 5% (+21,000) has increased. While cared for by relatives or the number of pure care allowance recipients by 1% - decreased (-6,000).

Compared to 1999, the year of introduction of the nursing care Statistics in Germany, is the increase of residents in nursing homes 18% (+ 103,000). The increase in home care services will be 14% (+ 56,000). Through this development, the proportion of those supplied at home fell from 72% in 1999 to 69% in 2003 to 68% in 2005.

For 30 years, the average birth rate of 1.4 births per woman in Germany to preserve the population is too low. Therefore, elderly people  also have a few and old children. These relatives can often physically or by increasing social mobility not afford the care of the parents.

For the future it is expected that in many cases no family care can be given, because the children increasingly no longer live near their elderly parents.

People want to live independently as long as possible in their familiar surroundings, in thier own home. Demographic trends and the continued aging of our society lead to a shift of home and outpatient care through to residential care and alternative forms of care.

Even with a declining rate of nursing care due to improved medical care for the year 2030 approximately 3 million dependent persons are forecast. This is not a trend or cycle, but a change in our social structures and ways of life.
